On the evening of June 6, 2025, the Wenchang Theatre at the Zitong Campus of Sichuan Conservatory of Art was illuminated by a remarkable concert titled "Moon Platform Light Gatherers." This event showcased the exceptional teaching achievements of Professors Mo Hualun and Wang Bingbing, whose masterclasses have cultivated a new generation of talented musicians. The concert was a collaborative masterpiece, featuring the students and faculty of the masterclasses alongside the university's esteemed symphony orchestra. Together, they delivered a breathtaking performance that blended vocal artistry with symphonic grandeur, creating an unforgettable musical experience for the audience.
This event was more than just a concert; it was a vivid demonstration of the effectiveness of the "masterclass" education model at Sichuan Conservatory of Art. It showcased how the guidance of distinguished professors can inspire and elevate students to new heights of artistic excellence.
"Classic Reinterpreted: A Moonlit Platform Weaving an Operatic Epic"
Breaking the traditional framework of concerts, the entire performance was carefully guided by two professors and centered around the creative core stage imagery of a "train station platform." Our university's symphony orchestra provided live accompaniment throughout with exquisite skills, infusing each piece with a vibrant soul. As the lighting changed, the platform scene skillfully transformed, linking the cheerful and lively "Yao Dance," the vigorous and youthful "Youth Dance," the deeply affectionate "Wait for Me, My Beloved," the delicate aria of "Una Furtiva Lagrima," and the majestic and heroic "Toreador Song"—a diverse array of classic pieces from both Chinese and foreign music—into a dramatic "operatic scroll" like a string of pearls. The innovative narrative setting and meticulously choreographed performance, combined with the touching singing of teachers and students and the symphony orchestra's seamless coordination, transported the audience to a platform of time, where they experienced a musical journey that transcended geography and culture. This refreshing experience earned enthusiastic applause from the audience.
"Renowned Teachers Guide the Way, and the Stage Bears Witness to the Achievements of Teaching"
The concert program of this teaching class fully demonstrated the depth and breadth of the teaching. The first half focused on Chinese vocal classics, with several arias and duets from "Yimeng Mountain" as the highlights. The symphony orchestra's precise grasp of the Chinese national music style provided a solid and dynamic support for the singers. Luo Jiao's rendition of "Waiting for a Lifetime" was emotionally sincere, Wang Siyu's interpretation of "Yimeng Mountain, My Eternal Parents" was soul-stirring, Xue Xuankai and Sheng Jie's duet "Wait for Me, My Beloved" was touching and well-coordinated, Jiang Yizhe's "One Last Look at My Dear Ones" was powerful, and Zhang Rui's "Loving You in This Life and the Next" was highly infectious. The teachers and students have made significant progress in handling complex national emotions and dramatic tension.
The second half of the concert shifted to the Western opera hall, with the orchestra seamlessly switching styles to accurately present the elegance of Mozart, the lyricism of Puccini, the brilliance of Donizetti, and the passion of Verdi. Zhao Zhiyu precisely captured the Mozartian style in "You Have Won the Case," Liao Jia's "O Mio Babbino Caro" was clear and deeply emotional, and Ma Xiao's "Count, Listen" was humorous and lively. The duet segment was particularly eye-catching: Zhao Qingqing and Zhao Zhiyu's "Let's Go Together" was elegant and well-coordinated, Qi Jiahao and Hu Danna's "O Lovely Girl" was tender and affectionate, and Peng Qirui and Hu Danna's "Five… Ten… Twenty…" was full of fun. Among them, Peng Qirui's closing performance of "The Toreador Song" was magnificent, and Fu Fei's leading "Drinking Song" ignited the entire venue. Behind each piece's accurate transmission of the original work's essence lies the systematic training of our university's "Master Class" in the interpretation of classic works, foreign language diction, and character shaping, as well as the professional quality and collaborative ability of the symphony orchestra.
"Audience in Uproar, Teachers and Students Jointly Compose Patriotic Ode"
The concert reached its emotional climax during Fu Fei's lead in the "Drinking Song." Professors Mo Hualun and Wang Bingbing rose from the audience and joined the stage amidst applause, singing together with all the teachers and students on stage. The symphony orchestra played the familiar and stirring melody, instantly breaking down the boundaries of the stage and stirring up sincere emotions in the theater. At the end of the piece, the solemn melody of "My Motherland and I" began to play, and more than 700 audience members on and off the stage spontaneously joined in a chorus. The passionate singing and grand symphony converged into a profound emotional torrent, with applause lasting for a long time, bringing this grand event where art and teaching intersect to a perfect conclusion.
"Master Craftsmen Nurture Talent, Collaborative Education Strengthens the Artistic Heights of Sichuan Institute of Culture and Arts"
"The Platform Light Gatherers" —— The successful hosting of the teaching class concert by Professors Mo Hualun and Wang Bingbing is the culmination of Sichuan Institute of Culture and Arts' strategy for introducing high-level talents, the "Master Class" education model, and the philosophy of "promoting teaching through performance, integrating performance and teaching, and integrating industry and education." As specially appointed professors of our university, Professors Mo Hualun and Wang Bingbing have deeply integrated their profound artistic attainments and rigorous teaching into the vocal teaching system of the college. The innovative narrative form of this concert, the excellent singing performance of teachers and students, and the high-level professional presentation by the orchestra, together with the background atmosphere designed by teachers and students, constitute the best proof of the leapfrog improvement in artistic understanding, stage performance, and comprehensive quality of teachers and students under this system.
In recent years, our university has been committed to building a high-level domestic art education platform, activating teaching innovation momentum with the leadership of famous teachers, and strengthening the collaborative training and practical linkage of vocal, instrumental, and other majors. "The Platform Light Gatherers" not only showcases the excellent artistic level of teachers, students, and the orchestra working together but also highlights the university's forward-looking vision in deepening teaching reform, exploring new paradigms of artistic expression, and building an all-round talent training model. In the future, the university will continue to rely on the resources of masters, cultivate a fertile ground for talents, and deliver more compound talents with profound skills, innovative spirit, and excellent collaborative abilities to the domestic and international art stages.
